Ol Pejeta's Endana School goes from strength to strength

The fundraising efforts of Equitix has contributed a generous £100,000 to the Ol Pejeta education programme. These funds have enabled the construction of the Endana secondary school, a mixed day and boarding school. The Endana school is an important centre for learning, as it is the only secondary school that caters to students within a 30km radius of the northern side of Ol Pejeta Conservancy. In partnership with Ol Pejeta, Equitix’s contribution has been used to construct the school’s six classrooms, two water tanks, two latrines and a perimeter fence as well as provide solar power. The latest funds raised by Equitix will be used to build a science laboratory as well as an administrative block and a staff room.

Based on a decade of applied research and conservation in northern Kenya, Space for Giants has built up a team with the knowledge and capacity to address the current challenges that elephants are facing. But major resources and the support of many friends and partner organisations are needed to enable Space for Giants to fulfill its mission.

3650 Campaign

The African Elephant is in a race against time. With as many as 35,000 being poached each year – ten percent of the total population of elephants on the continent of Africa – this magnificent species may only have ten years (3650 days) left.

Gustav Manz was a celebrated jewellery designer known for his remarkably life-like animal figures carved in precious metal. His craftsmanship attracted orders from Tiffany & Co, Black Starr & Frost-Gorham, Cartier, Raymond C. Yard and Shreve Crump & Low, as well as commissions for many artists of the day. In the late 19th century he designed a beautiful elephant cuff bracelet that his family has decided to remake to help call attention to the plight of the African elephant.

In partnership with the artist’s descendants, Tusk USA is offering a limited edition of the Elephant Bracelet, from which one third of the sales proceeds will be donated to support an end to the ivory trade.

Life Cycle Africa

After 2,800km, 34 days, 4 countries, 120 power bars and only 2 punctures, Ben Manners and Sallie Burrough have made it!

The pair set out on their bicycles from Maputo on 1st August and headed across the flat coastal plains of Mozambique. Their journey then took them across incredible mountain and pine scenery, climbing to over 2,050m above sea level. The twosome reached Pretoria, South Africa, on 11th August, where they took a much needed day of rest and visited a Tusk project- Cape Vulture Conservation.

By the 15th, the duo had crossed into Botswana and began their journey across the hot and dusty Kalahari, biking through red sand dunes, along river beds and below circling vultures. Along the way, they visited the Mokolodi Nature Reserve- another Tusk project- where they had the good fortune of seeing crocodile, hippos, impala and much more.

On 26th August, the pair crossed into Namibia and made their way across the seemingly endless Namib desert. After a heroic effort, they finally left the Namib behind, leaving only 120km to the Atlantic coast.

Overcoming stomach upsets, saddle-sores, gale winds, punctures, and their tents being raided by baboons, Ben and Sallie completed their epic journey arriving at the Atlantic coast on 3rd September.

The team hopes to have raised more than 11,000 for Tusk! They are planning to channel some of the funds raised to support the two tusk projects they visited along the way.

Congratulations Ben and Sallie!
