Tusk Conservation Awards 2020

The Tusk Conservation Awards celebrate the extraordinary work of dedicated conservationists from across Africa, whose work and lives might otherwise go unnoticed outside their fields. The 2020 Awards ceremony will be a virtual event.

The annual Tusk Conservation Awards were established in 2013 in partnership with Ninety One and in conjunction with HRH The Duke of Cambridge, to celebrate successful conservation that is being undertaken throughout Africa by individuals who are dedicated to their work and cause.

The Awards have become an accolade in the truest sense, and recognise the unsung heroes of conservation, who are nominated by their peers without their prior knowledge, in recognition of their outstanding and inspirational efforts to conserve Africa’s natural heritage.

Now in its eighth year, the 2020 Awards ceremony will for the first time be a purely virtual event, on account of the restrictions imposed by Covid-19.

The event will be a celebration of all that can be achieved against the odds, and we are extremely honoured that BBC Presenter Kate Silverton will be our online host for the evening, and Adventurer & TV Personality Bear Grylls will introduce the Tusk Ranger Award. Entertainment for the broadcast will include a performance from best-selling singer-songwriter Jack Savoretti.

To find out how you can watch the ceremony, and for more information about the event, please contact info@tusk.org.

We would like to thank Ninety One for their valuable partnership since the inception of the Awards, and co-sponsors Land Rover, the Nick Maughan Foundation, ISPS Handa, Mantis, Patrick Mavros, and Fortemus & Maia Films, Ethiopian Airlines, Shelton Fleming and EJF Philanthropies for their support.

These Awards which mean a great deal to me personally, play a huge part in our mission to preserve Africa’s precious wildlife for its people. It is vital that we recognise the dedication of these unsung heroes and the bravery of rangers risking their lives, day and night, on conservation’s frontline. We all owe them a huge debt of gratitude.

The Awards

The Prince William Award for Conservation in Africa, sponsored by Ninety One is a lifetime achievement award, given to a distinguished individual for their outstanding dedication and exceptional continued contribution to conservation in Africa.

The Tusk Award for Conservation in Africa, sponsored by Land Rover, is for an individual who is judged to be an emerging leading conservationist, in recognition of their outstanding success shown in their chosen field.

The Tusk Wildlife Ranger Award gives international recognition to the dedication and commitment of an individual who works in the field to protect Africa’s wildlife.  The award is being sponsored by the Nick Maughan Foundation.

Tusk Conservation Awards 2019

The seventh annual Tusk Conservation Awards were presented at a glittering ceremony at London's Empire Cinema, Leicester Square. Congratulating the finalists, Tusk's Royal Patron HRH The Duke of Cambridge spoke of how they and their colleagues are "truly inspiring and give us all hope that change is truly possible".

Prince William Joins Tusk Partner Forum

Tusk’s Royal Patron, The Duke of Cambridge, joined an online forum with leading African conservationists to discuss the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sector, its implications on wildlife and communities, and the solutions being adopted across the continent.
