Lewa is a model of successful community based conservation and is home to over 130 endangered black and white rhino. During your stay you will be given behind the scenes insight into the work that is undertaken to protect these magnificent animals.
Namunyak serves as a vital wildlife refuge for endangered species such as Grevy’s zebra and African wild dog. It is also part of a critical corridor for the Samburu/Laikipia elephant, linking national reserves in the south with the Mathews Range and the remote conservancies to the north and east. Namunyak is part of the Northern Rangelands Trust which, funded in part by Tusk, works with 26 conservancies across three million acres of northern Kenya. Your stay at Sarara Camp promises to be an extraordinary safari experience.
The Borana Conservancy is a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to the sustainable conservation of critical habitat and wildlife. Borana’s mission is to provide a sustainable ecosystem, in partnership with their neighbors and community, for critically endangered species on the brink of extinction. The holistic approach commits tourism, ranching and other enterprises to building local livelihoods and enhancing ecosystem integrity. While at Borana Lodge you will see some of the 20 rhino that were recently moved to the conservancy for protection from poaching in other areas.
In the Masai Mara you will be graciously hosted at Mara Toto. Here you will visit the Koiyaki Guiding School, a school which has produced some of the best guides in Africa. Koiyaki Guiding School is situated on the Koiyaki Group Ranch neighboring the Masai Mara National Reserve in southern Kenya. The school was established in 2005 with the help of Tusk to educate the local Masai in the tourism industry and other nature based enterprises, thereby providing employment opportunities and promoting and encouraging the long-term conservation of the unique Masai Mara ecosystem.
