Volunteering in Africa
We receive numerous calls and let
ters from school and university leavers looking for ‘gap’ work at one of our projects in Africa. Sadly these opportunities are very rarely possible, but now we have hooked up with volunteer project specialists Africa Asia Venture and Worldwide Experience, who can offer some of the most rewarding, and adventurous opportunities, ranging from wildlife conservation and marine preservation work to community outreach assignments and teaching.

Any person, with a social conscience and an adventurous spirit, should consider spending 3-5 months with Africa and Asia Venture (AV). It is a specialist volunteering organisation, with its roots in the gap year market, and has 16 years experience of placing volunteers in poor rural areas asassistant teachers throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America, and on community, environment and conservation projects in Kenya and Latin America. AV allows its volunteers total freedom, with a wide safety net, and helps them to immerse
themselves within the communities that they live, offering much but gaining so much more. AV also has a reputation for excellence and has established close links with African communities over the past 16 years. AV are proud to be associated with Tusk, whose ideals they share wholeheartedly.
Worldwide Experience initially specialized in Africa, with its roots at the Shamwari Game Reserve in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, but has since developed to include projects all over the globe. Working with local groups and authorities, these include monkey rehabilitation projects in Kenya, leopard research in Sri Lanka, and community work at orphanages, crèches and schools in South Africa. Working alongside local experts, volunteers will become deeply involved in their designated tasks, regardless of how long they take part for. Work placements start from four weeks, and are tailored both to the volunteers’ requirements and to the needs of the recipient communities. The volunteer schemes are open to all age groups, fitness levels and abilities, with specific skills and personal aspirations taken into careful consideration to ensure the most effective and rewarding venture for all concerned.
