Ride 4 Rangers Reaches the Halfway Mark

The Ride 4 Rangers team is halfway through their cumulative bike ride challenge. Aiming for a 30,000km total distance – the equivalent of circumnavigating Africa. Ben Morison, the organiser and driving force behind the challenge, gives us an update from the road.

“Cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats with Ride 4 Rangers may have its moments, but I’m super elated by the fundraising we’ve achieved so far: heading for £60,000 and rising daily! With 500km under our belts, we’re all in good spirits and still hitting those pedals.  For me, the highlight was the launch at Land’s End with Tusk and Mantis along to support us and a real buzz as we headed out.
“But Wednesday was our worst day with continuous rain; soaked to the skin from the get-go in Bath, we arrived cold and shivery in Cheltenham.  Yet despite the weather, Steppes Travel turned out for the full day and put in an amazing show.  The stand-out performance of the ride so far was by Marcus Clarke cycling in his hairy gorilla (head to toe) suit with its tiny eye holes.  Respect all round!

“And we scheme as we cycle: which Africa tour operators can we target today, how best to energise all our peers across the UK and beyond to pick up their phones, ask their clients and contacts to set up Ride 4 Rangers fundraising page and send a dedicated newsletter.  That’s all we’re asking.

“Ride 4 Rangers is just part of a much bigger campaign, we’ve achieved that all-important momentum and galvanised brilliant support from the trade.  We’ve proven that the Africa travel trade cares and we’re hopeful they will all share this challenge with their customers and spread the message.  When we set out, Ride 4 Rangers fundraising was around £9,000, but today we’re tapping on £60,000 and we now feel it’s achievable to aim for £100,000!
