Tusk Conservation Awards 2019

The Tusk Conservation Awards, in partnership with Investec Asset Management, celebrate the extraordinary work of dedicated conservationists from across Africa, whose work and lives might otherwise go unnoticed outside their fields.

Tusk Conservation Award 2019 Finalists

Now in its seventh year, the Awards ceremony will for the first time be held at The Empire Cinema, Leicester Square, London, and will be hosted by Kate Silverton. Guests will have the opportunity to learn more about the finalists’ work on the big screen, and to hear from the winners themselves.

The three shortlisted finalists for the Tusk Award for Conservation Award, sponsored by Land Rover, all deserve recognition for the considerable difference they have already made for Africa’s wildlife:

Tomas Diagne, Senegal (above left)

Over the past 26 years, Tomas, the Director and Founder of the African Chelonian Institute, has focused his work on the protection of tortoise and the freshwater and sea turtles of West Africa.

Dr Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, Uganda (above centre)

As founder and CEO of the non-profit Uganda based Conservation Through Public Health, Gladys established innovative programmes to protect mountain gorillas and other wildlife from human and livestock disease and then use information and communication technology to aid both local development and environmental education.

Jeneria Lekilelei, Kenya (above right)

As Ewaso Lions Director of Community Conservation, Jeneria is succeeding in his aim to create sustainable lion conservation by changing attitudes and behaviours towards lions amongst the younger generation in his area of northern Kenya.

The winner will be announced at the ceremony, along with the winner of the Prince William Award for Conservation in Africa and the Tusk Ranger Award.

Tusk would like to thank Investec Asset Management for its continued support of the Awards, and co-sponsors Land Rover, ISPS Handa, Mantis Group, Moët & Chandon and Spectrecom for their support.
