Zimbabwe

The Malilangwe Reserve is a 130,000 acre, pristine wilderness area in the south-eastern corner of Zimbabwe. Over the last 30 years, an astonishingly successful restoration of the area from a cattle ranch to it's former natural state, has been implemented by Tusk supported Malilangwe Trust. The Trust is dedicated to environmental conservation and committed to the development of lives in the local communities. An area of new birth, positive upliftment and unique experiences.

DAY 1 – 7

SINGITA PAMUSHANA LODGE

Singita Pamushana Lodge is the only lodge located within the 130,000 acre Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve. Perched high on a sandstone kopje overlooking the Malilangwe Dam, here guests have exclusive access to explore this exceptional wilderness area benefitting from the many projects run by Tusk supported Malilangwe Trust.

The Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve supports a huge diversity of habitats and a rich assortment of wildlife species, including a growing black rhino population. Professional management and the support of the local community are essential to maintaining it. The Malilangwe Trust needs steady, ongoing support to secure the future of this gem “Alone we are a blade of grass, but together we are the mighty baobab”.

Singita Pamushana offers an enviable variety of activities on the reserve. Twice daily game drives, bush walks, ancient rock art sites, cycling, fishing and sundowner cruises. On site there is a tennis court, gym and wellness spa, surrounded by the exceptional luxury Singita is known for, whilst being sensitive and in keeping with the natural surroundings

With only 8 thatched suites, each with their own infinity plunge pool with views over the dam, it is an intimate lodge.  Spending time on one of the veranda’s, overlooking the dam and beyond into the reserve, is a great place for reflection on all you can see and have learnt whilst here. How tourism, and Tusk, plays an integral part to the future vision of the reserve, it’s people and wildlife.

Stay: Singita Pamushana's elevated position provides exceptional views and aspect of the Malilangwe Dam and Reserve beyond. Conservation: Only a few white rhinos remained in the area before The Malilangwe Trust was formed. Today the Malilangwe is home to one of the largest populations of rhino, both black and white, in Africa. Importantly, they have also secured 20 years of detailed records of their locations, behaviour and observations collected by the scouts who are responsible for both security and rhino monitoring. Hide: The Lodge's hide is the perfect spot to sit quietly and watch the various resident wildlife come in for their daily drink. It also offers a fantastic photographic opportunity! Wildlife Management: The Wildlife Management department within The Malilangwe Trust is responsible for monitoring animal populations in relation to carrying capacity, restocking and reintroduction of wildlife, disease management, management of invasive plants and monitoring the health of the water systems that are critical to the health of the Malilangwe's ecosystem. Antipoaching: “It is not just a job, but a way of life...courage, determination, unselfishness and cheerfulness are what being a Malilangwe Scout is all about.” This is a necessary reality and a major contributor to The Malilangwe's success. 24hrs a day 365 days of the year the anti-poaching team is on duty, patrolling the 130,000 acre Wildlife Reserve. At the same time, there is a constant focus on increasing the number of scouts, upscaling training and equipment and re-fencing the entire reserve. When travelling with Exceptional Travel to Singita Pamushana, not only are you supporting Singita Pamushana's and Tusk's contribution to the Malilangwe Trust, but an additional contribution is made by Exceptional Travel of 5% of their annual profits, to Tusk. This is at no additional cost to yourself. Tourism does have the power to make a long term, sustainable, and highly impactful positive change, when working with the best partners.
